Low Risk Confined Space Training

Course Overview

What is a confined space?

• A space that’s enclosed or largely enclosed
• A space with a risk of fire, explosion, asphyxiation, drowning, or loss of consciousness
• A space that contains flammable or explosive atmospheres
• A space that contains harmful gases, fumes, or vapours
• A space that contains free-flowing solids or an increasing level of liquid

Examples of confined spaces

• Storage tanks, silos, and reaction vessels
• Enclosed drains and sewers
• Open-topped chambers, vats, and pits
• Combustion chambers in furnaces
• Ductwork
• Unventilated or poorly ventilated rooms

Risks in confined spaces 

• Fire or explosion
• Loss of consciousness or asphyxiation from gas, fumes, vapours, or lack of oxygen
• Drowning in liquid or a free-flowing solid

Low-risk

Easy access, good natural ventilation, minimal risk of hazardous atmospheres. 

Low risk confined space training teaches people how to properly undertake a risk assessment and how to implement safe system of works for confined spaces that are deemed as low risk. Trainees will learn about the hazards, safety precautions, and legislation to improve knowledge and skills for confined space working.
